Hollywood, 1939: Legendary producer David O. Selznick has shut down production on his new epic — the film everyone tells him can’t be made, Gone With the Wind. The screenplay just doesn’t work.
So what’s an all-powerful movie mogul to do? Desperate, but also determined, he brings in famed rewrite man Ben Hecht and pulls formidable director Victor Fleming from the set of The Wizard of Oz to save the big-budget epic. Summoning both to his office, he locks the doors.
Out of this scenario, playwright Ron Hutchinson creates a delicious comedy that takes us behind-the-scenes for a look at how entertainment, power and politics came together to create one of America’s legendary films.
This mad-cap romp features Bruce Pileggi as David O. Selznick, Jack Kroll as Ben Hecht, Rick Meyer as Victor Flemming and Elizabeth Barrows as the ever-loyal Miss Poppenguhl.
“Frankly, my dear, this is one funny play....a rip-roaring farce...with witty pointed dialogue and hilarious situations” - The New York Daily News
“An affectionate portrait of the legendary movie producer, David O. Selznick, and his collaborators...a lot of fun...dispenses a good deal of insider’s dope on the professional and personal dynamics that fueled the production [of Gone with the Wind]...plenty of genuine wit in the dialogue, and the characters are drawn with such affection that one can’t help but cheer for them.” —NY Post
